A special guest of First Lady Michelle Obama, Estiven was invited as a representative of one of our Teen Docent Program partner schools– Washington Heights Expeditionary Learning School! On the first day of the semester, the Teen Docents discussed a significant work of art that is on long-term loan here at the American Folk Art Museum: THE PEACEABLE KINGDOM by Edward Hicks. At least sixty-one other versions on this theme by the artist, who was trained as an ornamental painter, have been identified so far. Three of these paintings are on view currently at the Yale Art Gallery.
